BOOBS, BABIES and THE BIC C

Laura Bonnell

I've been back and forth about whether to write this blog post. I'm endeavouring to keep my ramblings 'on brand'. I'm striving to give an interesting insight into launching this brand, and now (hopefully) telling you all about us up rooting from London and moving to California!.. I'll give you a heads up that this post mentions boobs quite a bit! It also gets a little bit 'Walking Dead' graphic a little while later, but hang in there it has a happy ending!

Muklet's first collaboration

Laura Bonnell

We've been working on something very exciting behind the scenes, and we've been dying to tell you about it! Finally we can let the cat out the bag and tell you about Muklet's first foray into collaborations!

Robert Grieves' work first came to our notice some years ago when his short animated film SAUSAGE won 8 festival awards and qualified for the 2015 Oscars and BAFTAs. We immediately fell in love with his illustration style which drew on inspiration from the retro era. So, when Muklet decided we wanted to take in a resident artist to develop some characters especially for us we gave Robert a call!

It was still early days of Muklet then, we didn't really have much to show for ourselves, but fortunately for us Rob loved our concept, and was excited to come onboard and work on some characters for us. We started by sending Rob some of our inspiration boards:

We then discussed that it might be fun to design a boy and girl character - our muklets if you will. We would then dress them up in different retro outfits, the first ones being a Cowboy and Cowgirl.

Robert has been an animator for the past 15 years and his career has been grounded in Motion Graphics both in London and Sydney. He's regularly worked with broadcasters including the BBC, ABC, Disney and the History Channel. His projects have collected two Gold Promax/BDA awards, the first ever Emmy for Outstanding Motion Design, and recently shortlisted for Best TV Graphics at the British Animation Awards. Robert’s also created interactive animations for Madame Tussaud's and Cirque du Soleil, as well as pioneering backdrops for Hairspray the Musical and the London Olympic Ceremonies. So you could say, he's a pretty talented guy, and we are chuffed to bits he want to 'dip his toe' into the world of Children's clothing with us!

Most excitingly the launch of Rob's first apparel and accessory designs coincide with the launch of a truly awesome animation commission by Sesame Street, which premiered just recently on HBO, and is also available to watch online. It's aim is to inspire kids to eat healthy food. Check it out on this link:

Ice-cream beards and grubby knees

Laura Bonnell

So, if there's one thing me and my husband totally agree on, it's that we want to allow our kids to be kids! We positively encourage getting mucky, falling over, learning that maybe that wasn't such a great idea after all and getting back up again. A 99 Flake tastes all the better for having had a little face submerged in it then reappear with a humorous ice-cream beard!

We’re not big fans of ‘helicopter parenting’ so you won't find us hovering around the rug rats trying to prevent every stumble and scrape. If you hang with us, go ahead, climb up the slide the wrong way, run down a hill faster than your lil' legs can carry you, make a mud pie. We say grubby knees, yes please!
